The goals of breeding at Clefell's
Every breeder has his interpretation of the ideal of the breed. The perfect dog is never created, but every breeder should aim as near his ideal as possible. In my breeding work, I aim for a healthy family dog with the original GP type. All my litters comply with the breeding qualification criteria of the Finnish GP Club.
I test my breeding stock for hip dysplasia and hereditary eye diseases prior to breeding, and breed only dogs who have clear eye test results and HD A to B, in exceptional cases C combined with A. According to our club's breeding criteria, it is allowed to combine a dog with a minor hip dysplasia (C) with a healthy dog (A or B).
The GP is a dog of the family, so it should live with the family. My own dogs are members of the family and live in the house. All my litters are raised in the house to assure proper socialization. Starting from 2005 on, I intend to have as many dogs as possible temperament tested. This goes for breeding material as well as for offspring.
Regarding conformation, I consider the correct pinscher type (FCI standard) the most important aspect of all. I am willing to compromise over some details if the type is correct. The dogs should be elegant, yet strong. The correct pinscher type consists of a level topline, strong forechest, a deep and roomy chest and good angulations of both the forequarters and hindquarters. An important part of the right GP appearance is also the head, which should be elegant and have parallel profile lines.
